Christmas Time...

I've been sick as a dog all week, sigh..so my apologies for lack of posts this week. I hope everyone had a fun Christmas (and got everything you asked for!) Every year, my family gathers at my mom's house for dinner and it's always a big event and SO much fun! We have about 30+ people or so, tons of food (and LOTS of shouting as the men watch hours and hours of football!) On the menu was everything you could imagine: mac & cheese, jerk chicken, teriyaki chicken, fish, baked ham, potatoes, lasagna, peppered shrimp... We had leftovers for days!! The best part was just hanging out, laughing and joking around while opening our gifts.

My cousins and I always get really dressed up so I decided to wear the new leopard print shirt and leather pencil skirt I purchased from ZARA. And of course my cousin Tamika and her husband Collis, below, were best dressed. I swear they're the most stylish couple I know!! Check out his plaid pants...very GQ!

I hope you're enjoying the holiday season!!

Countdown To Christmas...

So I went by my mom's house yesterday to help her finish up decorating her place for Christmas. We always have a really big Christmas dinner there with about 30+ people and she was determined to make the house as festive as possible. More than once, she asked, "Where can we add more red bows??" Lol! I was going bow-crazy and by the end of the night I was practically buried under a pile of bows, tinsel, and garland! But the house looks gorgeous and I can't wait for Christmas Day!!

Happy Holidays!!

10 Things To Do Before I Turn 30!

When I first started this blog, I did a post called "15 Random Things About Me", HERE. Just a quick introduction into my Seinfeld obsession, my near death drowning experience (!), and more. Now that the year is coming to an end, it had me thinking about what I want to accomplish before I turn 30 years old next year. Although many woman dread turning "the BIG 3-0", I'm actually looking forward to it. My 20s were ok, but I feel like my 30s will be fantastic! I made a list about a year ago, "10 Things To Do Before I Turn 30" and decided to start checking things off! I know if I post it here, I'll be more likely to stick to it :). So here it goes:

1. Go to a wine tasting. I did this for my 29th birthday and took my cousins, mom, and aunt. It was really the best birthday to date! I did a post about it HERE. We hired a limo and got a little tipsy checked out about five different wineries. So much fun!

2. Run a marathon. I've always wanted to do this but never had the courage. I'm not talking about a full 26.2 mile marathon. Are you crazy? I can handle a mini marathon and this is really one of the goals I'm going to try VERY hard to accomplish!

3. Learn how to speak French. I visited Paris a few years ago and LOVED it. I could have stayed forever! And every time someone mentions Paris, I daydream about going back. It had to be the best vacation I've ever been on. I picked up a little bit of French while there, but I'd really like to learn how to speak it fluently.

4. Take a self-defense class. I'm pretty strong and my husband always jokes that he feels sorry for anyone who tries to mess with me, lol. But it never hurts to know how to properly protect yourself. This is something that I've been wanting to do for years, it's really important and I'm definitely going to do it!

5. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Like many other New Yorkers, I haven't done any tourist-y things like visit the Statue of Liberty or Empire State Building, but I've always wanted to take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. I see people doing it all the time (as I'm driving by!). So it can't be that hard, right?

6. Sing karaoke. No, I've never done it. And I've always thought people who did it were a bit strange. But I've been trying to break out of my shell, and what better way than to sing bad 80s pop songs in front of a bunch of total strangers?

7. Go to a movie/dinner alone. I see people doing this and wonder why I never have. I think it has something to do with me worrying about what other people are thinking as to why I'm sitting in a restaurant or theatre alone. But who cares, right? Sometimes you can be your own best company.

8. Have an article published in a national magazine. I've been working at magazines for years but never had the courage to pitch an idea to one of the big magazines. Fear of rejection? Eh, maybe a little. But you never know unless you try. I'm not saying VOGUE is going to publish me (although wouldn't that be nice?), but I really need to make this dream come true.

9. Buy a pair of Louboutins. This is a totally materialistic goal, but darn it I want a pair!

10. Feel confident and proud of all that I have accomplished. Sometimes we can be our own worst critic, and during my 20s I spent way too much time beating myself up for not having what everyone else had. But I have a pretty fulfilling life...a great family, husband, son, and home. I may not get everything that I want, but I'm thankful for all that I have.

What are some goals you have for yourself?

Manicure Monday!

So yesterday, I was getting ready to do my manicure for the week and wanted to something a little fun. Long story short, I ended up with gold glitter all over my face and living room floor...that's what I get for trying to be crafty, lol. It was actually pretty easy to achieve this glitter mani. Here's how:

1. I painted all of my nails a gorgeous bright red using Sally Hansen "All Fired Up", leaving the ring fingers to do last.

2. Then, I applied Wet N Wild "The Gold and The Beautiful" to my ring fingers. In case the glitter was sparse, I wanted to have a gold base underneath to avoid any empty spots.

3. While the gold nail polish was still tacky, I dipped my ring fingers into the Martha Stewart Crafts Tinsel Glitter in "Florentine Gold" and tapped off the excess.

4. Finally, I applied a Sally Hansen Double Duty Top Coat to each nail, with a few extra coats over the ring fingers to keep the glitter in tact.

And voila...a sparkly mani just in time for Christmas!

What manicure do you have mind for the holidays?

The Hunger Games Nail Polish Collection!

If you haven't already read the Hunger Games trilogy, what are you waiting for?? The much-anticipated movie opens next March 23 and I can't remember a time that I was more excited for a movie to open! Usually books turned into movies don't live up to my expectations but I've seen the Hunger Games trailer (replayed it about 12 times!) and it is exactly as I pictured it in my head while reading the book. And I literally squealed with delight when I heard rumors of an upcoming collection of nail polishes inspired by the movie and done by China Glaze (one of my favorite brands). There are 12 gorgeous colors in the collection (available March 1) and range from a sparkly dark "Smoke And Ashes" to a soft pale pink "Dress Me Up". I seriously cannot wait for March to arrive when the movie opens and these polishes become available! So excited!!

Have you read the books yet? Which one is your favorite?
